Digital Woodland Cordura, minus the EGA, in the Store!

Digital Woodland Cordura, minus the EGA, in the Store!

Finally we have a solid source of license free, Digital Woodland Cordura (Similar to MARPAT). As most of you know in order to legitimately obtain MARPAT you need to acquire a license from the USMC. The only fabric that was available on the open market were seconds or fabric that was being sold illegally. No more worries with this fabric, the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor has been omitted from the pattern. While this is commercial Cordura it is made in the US and Berry Amendment compliant.

In other related and exciting news we also now have access to printed webbing to match. This will be available shortly. Furthermore there is a Digital Desert version of both Cordura and webbing available, and those will be available in the store soon as well.

This is wonderful. I can’t wait to purchase some for my own projects. Now, to just get better at sewing and find some patterns.

  3. Why can't you get the EGA? says:

Actually, current or former Marine has nothing to do with it. Unless a company has a contract with the USMC to produce a piece of gear they cannot LEGALLY purchase 1st quality fabric. Seconds can be found from time to time.

Besides the EGA adds nothing to the effectiveness of the camo pattern. So it’s functionally it makes no difference.

      • Chuck says:

        Yup,

I understand that the EGA has nothing to do with the cammo effectiveness. It’s simply a matter of pride for jarheads to carry the EGA.

This really is still not cool. The EGA was added to show buyers (Marines) that it was an authentic piece of gear. Isn’t the pattern itself what is copyrighted? With the EGA just added as proof? If that’s the case then this is still illegal. If it’s not the case, then this is still ripping off the USMC for their pattern and not paying them the royalties that they deserve.

Obviously a tolling post but in the interests of otherrs that may be confused…

For startes I edited the wording since apparently it is confusing to some.

Where to begin, Let’s try to break this down and keep it simple.

No, the pattern (MARPAT) is not copyrighted, it is patented, and the EGA is a Trademark.

Instead of getting into dissecting the patent and explaining the patent and how to get around it let me offer up a bit of simple logic.

The company that makes Digital Woodland also makes MARPAT. They obviously have made good with the USMC in order to sell the fabric, otherwise they would jeopardize their contract with them. Not rocket science.
