Just over a year ago we made an announcement on the main site about how we (DIY Tactical) would like to help small gear makers get more exposure. Unfortunately not many took us up on the offer. We did some consulting with a couple people and made some suggestions for improvement but that’s about it. However we aren’t giving up.
After some thinking over the past year, we’ve come to the conclusion it doesn’t make much sense doing reviews of gear on a site where people come to learn how to make it, it’s kind of like preaching to the choir.
So we’ve decided to separate that part of DIY Tactical into it’s own website and have created the Custom Gear Report.
The “Reviews” concept still remains the same. If you send it, we will review it, if you want it back you pay the postage, if not we’ll hold an auction when we’ve collected enough stuff and donate the money to charity. In between auctions we’ll be able to use the gear in trade show displays and in marketing and product photography. This is not an effort to collect free gear, we have to much stuff as it is.
However the blog format offers us a lot more flexibility and we aren’t going to be doing just reviews. We will be profiling Small gear Companies, as well as product announcements for those that want to publicize a new product. We’ll also be writing other general subject articles. The entire focus of the blog will be smaller, limited production companies, we will not be discussing Blackhawk or Eagle etc. We are going to try our best to get at least 4-5 articles posted per week.
We’ve finally got most of the configuration done with a few tweaks left to do but the major stuff is complete.
For more details check out the About CGR section on the blog.
We will be making a formal announcement through our newsletter next week. This will be going out to over 2,000 subscribers, we are offering our forum members and website visitors the opportunity to get in the queue first. So if you would like your company profiled, submit an item for review or just make a product announcement please contact me directly either by email, through PM, or the Custom Gear Report website for details.
